The Need for Legal Education at Secondary and Higher Secondary Level of Education System of Bangladesh

Different programs like LL.B (Hons), LL.M, LL.B (pass),M. Phil. and Ph.D. over law have been launched in our higher education. A citizen of Bangladesh has vast opportunity to know about the law of the land or legal education at this level. But, there is little scope of learning legal education at secondary and higher secondary level. Like Bang/a, English, Social Science, General Science or Islamic Education, Law has not been included as a subject at thislevel. Even, there is no scope for the law graduates in Bangladesh Civil Service (Education). Our generation is growing up without knowing legal education at root level. Forty seven years has been passed after liberation war, but no government especially the Ministry of Education has introduced law as a mandatory subject at secondary and higher secondary level. Moreover, we know that Ignorance of Law is no excuse. It is urgent to make people aware about the law especially Constitutional Law for ensuring a democratic welfare state. So, 'a common course over law' or 'Constitutional Law' may be a mandatory subject at secondary and higher secondary level. And the Government should ensure a sector for the law graduates in Bangladesh Civil Service (Education) immediately.

Keywords: Legal education, Secondarylevel, Higher secondary level, Necessity, Sanction.
